UEFA Champions League club payments and prize money amounts released

23 July 2012- Chelsea was the biggest prize money earner in last season’s Champions League after beating Bayern Munich in the final.

Uefa paid clubs a around $8.7m for being in the tournament, plus results-based bonuses. Chelsea FC, the champions were the biggest winners receiving €59.9 million which is about $72.9 million for winning. Runner-up Bayern Munich has nothing to hold their heads down about, clearing €41.7m ($50.8m). Barcelona, who reached the semi-finals, earned €40.6m ($49.4m). Other notables are AC Milan €39.8 m ($48.5m), Man United €35.1m ($42.7m), Real Madrid €38.4m ($46.8m)

* The total money earned is a mixture of participation, match and performance bonuses in the group and knockout stages, as well as money from the television market pool – that is why English clubs tend to make more, they have huge television deals nationally.
