The Fédération Française de Football (FFF) has reportedly lost nearly €1.9 million in its last financial year
after paying out €4.5 million in compensation to sponsors after the woeful performance by Les Blues at this
summer’s World Cup finals.
A number of sponsors were reportedly reconsidering their partnership with the
team after an off-pitch row between striker Nicolas Anelka and manager Raymond Domenech, a strike by
players strike and the team’s failure to progress out of the group stages. Despite making this payment, the
FFF reportedly saved a slightly larger sum as players and staff did not earn any bonuses in South Africa.
“Otherwise the financial outcome of the 2009-10 accounts would have been excellent had it not been for the
serious events in South Africa”, said FFF treasurer Bernard Desumer. The FFF did not respond to SBW’s
request for further comment or confirmation of the figures.{jcomments on}
